Merit Badge
I was never a girl scout, I was in 4-H instead, and if provoked I will regale you with the pros and cons of each. Bottom line: I loved 4-H. But I did always have a desire to own a sash with collected patches.
Well, maybe I still will. Artist Mary Yaeger makes some wonderful badges, the rites of passage for women and summer merit badges for kids. I think the body image ones are my favorite, I've always loved the Venus of Willendorf figure.
Of course, any great figure deserves merchandising. Like this and these and
this.

Dub Dub Dub
Just got my own Dot Com!! YAY!
Not much there yet, just a link back to here. But I'll be working on it. I will move the blog there soon, but I want to make sure I update my link all the places I'm listed.
Couple of fun things:
Is it Art or Crap?
from L.Y.D.
And from Bobbie via e-mail:
The cool new Honda ad. The test audience, like myself, thought it was a great show of what computer graphics can do. But no, it's just one long chain reaction.

Photos
For the photo blog:
I noticed the shadows on the curtains was an interesting shape. So I took pictures. Then more pictures of curtains and windows. So the first photo blog set is titled (tounge in cheek, of course) windows

Pictures 'N Stuff
We picked up the ceramics we painted. Here's my cup! (I'll show the pictures of what J and D made IF I have their permission.) And the kidlings wanted to paint something when we picked up my stuff, so in another week, we'll have pix of their creations. It was so fun to do, we're hooked.
Also got some shots for Julianne's site that I'm working on. That site's still just getting started, I sure haven't done as much work on it as the G has on his cool site.
Couple other cool things:
My brother collects these things. And just yesterday, we discovered these, I just made a bumble bee and a locust. More pictures to follow, as I play with my new toy.
Here you can make your own comic strip. Here's my (lame) first attempt.

Take a Look
At my new Baby

In the Dark
Now, I'm not advocating forgetting to pay your electricity bill. :-) But, if you have to go through a night with no electricity, this is a nice time of the year to do it. You don't need heat or AC (in our 'neck of the woods' anyway), and there's late enough and early enough sunlight to get most things done.
And,
Adversity is not without comforts and hopes. --Bacon.
Or in my own words, adversity can spark creativity and comradery. For example, we discovered last night, that Munchkin plays great by candle light. We got to laughing so hard at one point, I was almost afraid a 'gut' would actually 'bust'.
So here's my gem of wisdom stuffed in a little bottle:
Whatever it is, make the best of it.

"Creation is Play"
I found this article on Creativity. And the 'reclaiming' of it. Good article. Not sure about 'reclaiming', as what I see is the biggest block to creativity, is feeling like you don't have any to 'reclaim'. (Which ISN'T true, we all have creativity!) But read the article, print it out even. Live your creativity.

and something completely different
Three out of the four guests on Colin Quinn tonight are women. Interesting how the conversation is different.

Project Creation
I've started a small group with a couple friends, which for now, I like to call Project Creation. I wanted to get this group together for two reasons:
1. To have us get together occasionally and do creative projects. and B) To have us share with each other the ideas/projects we are working on, have us keep each other motivated by sharing our progress or problems.
First, I "made" them watch Fight Club. OK, yes, I'm weird, I envisioned giving them anonymous creative assignments, well, you never know, maybe I still will....
Now, tonight, we are having our first 'session'. We're meeting at a store where you can paint your own ceremic pieces, the store provides all the paint, and does the firing. You pay per hour and per piece, and pick it up in about a week.
This will be FUN!!
I'm planning on doing the funkiest, coolest, most colorful BIG coffee mug I can come up with. This will be for use at work. I like to have little things with me at work to remind me of my creative self.

Cloud Me
:-(

We couldn't see the eclipse here, too cloudy.
I'm bummed! I wanted to see the red moon.
Did anyone get to see it?

Wednesday, May 14

Moon Me
There's a total eclipse tonight, find out the exact time you'll be able to see it, on this site. Very cool.
We like the Moon!
I told the kids they can probalby stay up to see the umbra if the weather's nice.
There's a new one, didn't even know what an umbra was before now. Sounds like an abbreviation for umbrella, or an article of underware for women of questionable size.
"When you're not sure if you need one or not, the UM?Bra. Card holders in the IBTC get a special discount."
Update
Here is more useful information on the eclipse.
'Nuther Update
Whoops, the eclipse is tomorrow, Thursday. I'm a day ahead of myself this week.
I guess I'm anxious for the weekend.

Ten Minutes
As I've said before, Judging Amy is my one never-miss show. Tonight's episode was one of those where the story is going along good, and you glance at the clock, and the show's got only ten more minutes left, and then Wham about a million emotional things happen, and next thing you know, you're bawling your eyes out.
But a good cry cleans out the tear ducts. So I guess my ducts are all clean now.

Happy Mother's Day
For mother's day, I took my boys to the Omaha Zoo. We saw the new desert, and the nocturnal exhibit, but the best part was the aquarium. The colors of the fish and plant that live in the ocean are amazing. One shrimp was blue, and purple, green and orange, with pink and black on it's tail. Just fantastic.
This guy looks like some sea plant floating around. It's actually very much like a sea horse. And the Jelly Fish are too cool. They have a hundred or so in a 5 ft diameter column, you can get so close to them, you can almost touch them. And of course, the PENGUINS! I could watch them for hours. They're so social, they'd come up and make friends with the zookeepers who came in to feed them.
My kids are at a good age (10 & 12) where they are old enough to be fairly independent (no taking any little boy in the girls bathroom with me anymore) and a lot of fun to go places with, and still young enough to still be willing to be seen in public with me.
A good mother's day at our house, I hope it was at yours, too.

Group Hug!
Here's a nice article someone in North Carolina wrote about blogging.
What the???
Look who's blog is an example of a personal blog! OK, I mean besides one of the first blogs I ever 'discovered' and still read regularly, Shut Up! I'm talking. Look who else! Just this lil' ol' cyberlovefest

Thursday Bit O' Beauty
OR
I Like Bike
We're having one of those art projects around town where there's one thing decorated many different ways. Like Chicago's Cows, Omaha's J.Doe's, or Sioux City's Prarie Dogs
Only ours isn't going to stay around very long, just for the summer. So my budding young photographers and I have made a plan to snap a picture of each and every one of the 71 bikes around town before they are auctioned in October. Nice summer project, I think.
A few we've seen so far:
Good Morning Sun, Good Night Moon
Go Somewhere
Scwinns for Fins

Nurse Celebration Week
Haven't blogged for a while. Ready to get back to it, I think. I can't say enough good about Hospice, and the nurses that work in that field.
