Crafers United Project Fringe

Crafers United Project
Originally uploaded by seeshells.
Here's my handy beading tip:
When I'm done with a project, and I'm designing the fringe to go with it, I make a sample card like this to check which fringe works best/looks best.
I usually have 3-4 different ideas, or slight differences of the same basic idea. Using the plastic canvas makes the practice fringe hang very similarly to how it will hang when it's on the project.
(go to the flickr photo to see the 'notes' on the specific samples)

Comments again

Boy, I'm a dork (and regular readers are saying 'yeah, we know')
But thanks to Sir Algor I have gotten my comment problem straightened out.
Turns out, Blogger was giving me a link to the direct post all along, but I didn't realize it. I was sure I had checked that link, I thought it was just a link to the main page.
Well, in my defense, maybe it used to be just a link to the main page, like years ago, and I didn't notice when it changed.
In my best Emily Lattella voice, I say: "Nevermind."

You Are 70% Boyish and 30% Girlish

You are pretty evenly split down the middle - a total eunuch.
Okay, kidding about the eunuch part. But you do get along with both sexes.
You reject traditional gender roles. However, you don't actively fight them.
You're just you. You don't try to be what people expect you to be.
How Boyish or Girlish Are You?

Comments

A short word on comments:
First, thank you for the birthday wishes, and the piratey wishes, guys.
Second, I've gotten some other comments this week, and I don't know where they are. I get an e-mail when a comment is made, because I have that option set, most all blogs have this setting, no big deal. But these other comments, I have no idea what post they were comments ON. Folks find my blog through strange Google searches, (I'll post one of those list of Google searches one of these days) and they are making comments on very old posts, evidentially. And one comment is "I was just looking into that question". Ummmm, which question?? I like to respond to comments when I can, and I don't know where to find them.
Note to Blogger: Could you add to the e-mail comment notification what post the comment was on??

Anti-Procrastination

I never really liked the Nike ads that said 'Just Do It' but you know they have a point. After my sewing machine sitting on the coffee table for probably almost two months, I sat down last night to sew up my project, and it took me less than 1/2 hour!
All because I had decided that I might need the coffee table last night, and wanted to put the sewing machine away. I guess I had been over-thinking the project, as I often do, and that was part of the problem, but simple is better, and getting it actually done is even better.
Let me see what else I can get done...

Hair today...

I died my hair a couple weeks ago, it's a dark black cherry type of red. It's a I'm-not-trying-to-pretend-this-is-my-natural-haircolor obviously fake red. It's fun. It's one of the only times I've used long lasting hair die, which means, in a few weeks I'll be faced with the roots issue, not looking forward to that.
A month or so before that, I got a hair cut, blunt all around, shorter than usual. I was sick of my hair at the length it was at, sick of the layers it had, and just ready for something different. Now, of course, I'm sick of it being too short to do anything with, sick of it getting in my eyes, and sure wish I could easily add length.
But no worries either way. Hair grows back again. I've done all sorts of things to and with my hair, I'll change it again as I see fit.
What interests me is how people react to hair changes. You can kind of tell the bottom-line-honest people from the niceness-over-honesty people when you do weird things to your hair. Usually work people always react, just for something to talk about at work if nothing else. There were several 'you cut/colored your hair's or 'what a change' or just 'wow's without actually telling me their opinion. That's fine, if I would have asked their opinion, that would be different. I did it for me, and I did it for fun.
I know this cut is not my favorite, and a couple honest people (real people, not work people) have told me honestly that it's not the best cut for me. Again, s'ok, it'll grow. As for the coloring, my favorite responses were these:
One guy (work people), asked me 'what the hell did you do to your hair?!' to which I smart-@$$edly replied 'I put color in it' 'ok, that was a stupid question' he said (yes, it was!) 'why did you do that?' 'just for fun' he was satisfied with that, but I somehow get the impression he didn't like the new color better than the old one.
But the best comment of all, work people wise was the gal who just laughed. Now, that's an honest response!

Dream Joke

Here's the joke from my dream last night/this morning:

The young entomologist was very excited to learn that new bug species, like dinosaur fossils, are usually named for who discovered them. The child did discover a bug soon after, but the entomology community went against their normal naming convention due to the length of the child's last name: Geisenhopfler. They shortened his name for the sake of the insect, and the new species is now known as:

"Bug Geis"

(say it out loud)

maybe I need to go back to bed.

Technicolor Singing

If you'd like to hear my wonderful singing voice ;p tune in to the JCD podcast. Or even if you don't want to hear me sing, tune in anyway. It's funny. If you like Jon Stewart, you'll like it.

HI

If you've found the new blog site, welcome. If not (well, if not, you're not reading this yet) it's because I didn't put the link before I switched over, and I'm trying to put a link there with dreamweaver, but not having luck yet.
Grrrr.

Changes

As I've said before, I've considered a few different things with the ol' blog. The RSS thing is important. I use RSS now to read blogs, and I know that there are definitely blogs I enjoy reading, but might forget to read if it wasn't on my RSS feed. I think my blog falls into that category. The enjoyable-but-sometimes-forgetable read. ;p
So, I am going to put the blog back onto blogspot, assuming I can. (Of course, being careful when assuming that I don't make an @$$ out of Uma Thurman) With Flickr and their blog posting, plus Blogger now being able to host photos, I have no reason to keep the blog on the technicolorday site.
So here it goes...

(please update your links!)

hmmm, not working yet...

I've been thinking about what I can do to help, and here it is.
