Booked

Boy, I've never been so glad to be finished with a book! I just read John Saul's Nightshade, and it just wasn't the right book for me. I've read several of his books, I really loved some of them, the spooky Indian ghost one, the one where the kids find out they're all experiments, the one with the blind girl. Oh, wait, maybe that was the same one...
Sure, they're a little formulaic, the story always starts out with some creepy foreshadowing, and there's always some twist, that may be easy to figure out, like The Sixth Sense. And sure, sometimes the twist is rather stupid, like The Village, but I've usually really enjoyed Saul's books. They're quick and easy to read, a nice falling-asleep book. But this one I just didn't like.
I think it started with the character not wanting to put her Alzheimer's mother into a home or hospital. Maybe that just got the whole thing started off bad for me. I think it's foolish to try keep an advanced Alzheimer's patient in the family home without the proper help (this character was trying to care for her mother basically by herself). It's dangerous to everyone, and not fair to the patient. The character just kept saying she couldn't send her mother away, family, and loyalty, and all that rot. It made me really not like the character, and I guess that's why the book wasn't' my favorite.
Anyway, taking a break from a serious book until I can get that one out of my brain.

Busy

I've moved into a very busy chapter of my life. Looks like the whole spring and summer will be terrible busy. But not terrible.
So I will apologize now for lack of posting, and we'll see how it goes.
One little part, on the creative side, almost all my arts and craft supplies are going into storage, but I decided to have one tub of 'current projects' that won't go into storage. I bought a 70 gallon tub for the current projects. I wonder if that will be enough.

Finally

OK, I finally went to the doctor today, and got a prescription. I've been sick for a month! and mostly just on the weekends, too.
A cold is a cold, it's viral, and they'll usually just say, rest and fluids. So I didn't waste going to the doctor when I can rest and take fluids without paying someone to tell me that.
But lately, it's been worse. So much worse. Hopefully the meds will start working.
Time to bundle up, lay down on the couch, (with my fluids!), and watch Torch Song Trillagy.
Nighty.

Whoops

I just realized that my seldom-used second Yahoo! account was deleted. Well, that shows how seldom I use it, I guess. But I went to it to look for recipes I think I saved there. I hope there was nothing else in there I needed. 'Cause it's gone-dy now.

Daily Things

In responce to Michelle's Daily Three Things for today, here's my Corn Bake Casserole recipe:

1/2 cup margarine
1 can cream corn
1 can whole kernel corn drained
1 8oz box corn muffin mix
3 eggs
2 cups sour cream
2 cups grated cheddar or co-jack cheese
Paprika to taste

Melt butter (origional recipe had a small onion sauted in the butter, but we rarely make it that way). Add cooled butter to both cans of corn, muffin mix, and eggs. Pour into 2-quart casserole dish. Mix the sour cream, cheese, and paprika in seperate bowl, spoon on top of corn mixture. Bake for 45 minutes at 350.

Sammich

I come from a long line of 'tryers'. We love to try new things. So even though I had it on good authority that the newest Burger King sandwich wasn't that great, I had to try it for myself. Besides, I can't get the stupid song out of my head! Though I can't ever get it right. Cheddar chicken bacon chicken ranch...chicken better cheddar bacon ranch...bacon chicken bicken cheddar ranch...oh forget it.
It wasn't terrible, but I won't order it again.
But what's up with people getting in the drive though??
My Burger King has two lanes. Clearly marked. I've never seen only one lane open. OK? So when I go to pull in, there's already one car ordering in one lane, and a second car is getting in line behind the first, and the car in front of me gets into the same line that already has two cars in it, while the other lane is empty. So I effectively cut in line in front of two cars full of people. I'm trying to feel bad about it, but snooze=lose, right? Get in the shortest lane, folks. Just like the grocery store. Get with the program or eat my dust.

Trading Post

Ok, I've thought a bit more about my decluttering, and the Freecycle idea, and the thrift store, and I've decided to try a little experiment.
I've changed the 'for sale' part of my gallery to the Trading Post, and I'll put pictures here of things I have that are up for grabs. I've put a couple more things in there, and I'll keep updating.

Freecycling and Flying

I signed up a little while ago for the local Freecycling Yahoo! Group, after my auntie had told me about Freecycling. The concept is finding a new home for the things you don't want/need anymore. And maybe find something that you need that some one else doesn't want/need anymore. Since I've been trying to simplify, and get rid of stuff, and using some of the FlyLady ideas to get rid of clutter, I thought the Freecycling might be a good alternative to just taking stuff to the thrift store. That's still a good plan for a lot of stuff, but sometimes I'd rather know that my leftover junk is going to a good home.
But I'm not sure if I'm organized enough to be posting things to give away on the Freecycling. Or if I want strangers stopping at my house to pick things up. Or what if they get here, and decided they don't want what I was offering after all? So, I haven't tried the Freecycling yet. Anybody tried it?
And I'm wondering if offering some things here on the blog would be a good idea. I wonder if anyone's noticed in my Gallery that I have a for sale or trade section. Maybe I need to be more clear in the gallery description. Or maybe I need to put things up that people actually want.
Any ideas???

Again

I'm sick of being sick! I've got the bug again!

Sunday, March 6

OUCH!

I have a wonderful set of purple pans that I love most of the time, but today I hate them! The big pots are made to go on the stovetop OR in the oven, and I usually use them on the stovetop. And because of that fact, I burned the crap out of several fingers. Since I'm used to cooking with this pot on the stovetop, I got careless and touched the side handle, which, when used on the stovetop, stays cool. So I'm cussing, and getting the pan back in the oven, when I do it again! I picked up the lid with the other hand, and promptly dropped it on the floor, screaming curse words. Only one finger has a blister at least, and it's not an essential finger. But still, it's not the first time I've done this, in fact, every time I put this pot in the oven I've done this, and now twice within 10 minutes. Pretty stupid.

Cinco de March-o

It's the fifth again! You know what that means! Time for Take Five!
This month, I made sure to set aside the time to get some good artsy-fartsy shots. With the great weather this weekend, I really wanted to capture this pre-Spring feeling that's all around us. To me, that meant bubbles! I wanted to take a pix of a bubble (or bubbles) against the bright blue sky. I roped Eleven into being my bubble model, and away we went.
One thing I love about digital cameras is how easy it is to get the perfect shot, and not worry about how many pictures you're wasting. Most of the Take Five shots I've taken these few months, I'll take 5-10 shots, dump them into iPhoto, crop, and change brighness/contrast until I have one shot. Then I just delete all the rest. No waste.
The bubble photo shoot was so good, that I've saved most of the shots into a whole 'nuther album. See the whole set here
Don'cha love when you get 'the perfect shot'? Makes me feel like a Spartan.

Finally Friday

Today is the last day of Big Time Stress Week (tm) at work. We worked for weeks to get ready for this week, and there has been some relaxing with the week being here, but still the stress of the week being here. All inspections going well, and we're all ready to heave a group sigh of relief, have a relaxing beverage, and get back to normal (whatever normal is).
I'm looking forward to getting my personal life back to normal as well, as work stress has been infiltrating my creative life. I hope to actually get out the sewing machine this weekend. Yay!
